Team AIM's Mallala 6 hour 2010 Report PDF Print E-mail

What a day!  The weather had been glorious for so long leading up to the 23rd May, but alas, someone told the weather gods we were going to play at Mallala and decided to throw everything at us from a dust storm in the morning, to quite heavy, persistant rain in the afternoon with a cold wind thrown in for good measure, ho hum!

But that couldn’t stop the enthusiasm of Team AIM (Alfettas In Motion) which consisted initially of six drivers, they being Malcolm Ebel, Andrew Scadding,

Julie Crafter, Sam Schmidt, Geoff Heaven and Andrew Ebel.  However, Julie had to pull out on Saturday due to illness and with Grant Pigot as our wonderful Team Manager, we soldered on.

It has become a wonderful team spirit for not only do we have the drivers mentioned above, but a cast of  approx. 14 other helpers all co-ordinating their duties and working well together.  A huge thank you to Pat Storr and Liz Camilleri for the fantastic catering which included a whiteboard selection for breakfast, lunch and dinner and the club bbq trailer has come in very handy for events like this.

Many thanks also to our very accurate timers, Phil and Chris Crouch and Jim Delaine and the girls on pit wall for enduring such a harsh climate throughout the day.

It is a long day for everybody but when all the planning comes together, the strategy works out how you want it and Murphy stays away, it is very rewarding and this resulted in our team winning Best Presented for the day and 2nd place overall out of  18 teams.

A huge thank you to Peter Hall, Sue Stephenson, Rob Hankinson, Adrian Flynn, all officials and flaggies for another well run event.

If you have the opportunity to make up a team for next year, please remember to put it in your diary.

A suggestion was put forward by Malcolm Ebel, the founder of  Team AIM to get a team together for the Victorian 6 hour in support of their event, in consideration of the fact that they always support the South Australian event.

We were able to get five drivers consisting of Malcolm Ebel, Andrew Ebel, Julie Crafter, Sam Schmidt and Andrew Scadding to run their Alfetta GTV’s and, of course, Malcolm’s GT with Grant Pigot eager to continue being Team Manager.

Due to Grant’s work commitments, this was unable to eventuate and we were fortunate enough that long time Scuderia Alfa member, Jim Strattman, who had volunteered to assist us, happily accepted the challenge of managing our team in Grant’s absence.

So with the enlistment of Chris Schmidt, Gerald Marsson, Lucy Crafter and Marlene Scadding as helpers, our team was set for the challenge!

The Need for Speed PDF Print E-mail

As the D.A.G. (Driver Assist Girl) of No. 152 I headed along to the Fathers Day Come and Try day with no desire to do the come and try sessions, however, as the morning progressed, I finally agreed that this would be the best opportunity for me to at least get a feel for the car and track without any pressure by participating in the parade laps in Andrew’s car.  After a little practice drive around the sheds, I took a deep breath and headed trackside to catch up to the course car for a few laps.  To my surprise, the clutch and gearbox were user friendly even for me.  Andrew convinced me to come for a ride on the hot laps as passenger and I found this very exhilarating although none of the pedals on my side of the car worked when I wanted them to.  As you can see, I like to be in control but here I was out of my comfort zone.

So, although I had a good time, I realised that this was definitely not for me.  Sorry guys, I will leave you to play on your own and be content to help out.
