For Alfas Running Trackside

By Competition Secretary

Welcome to the April edition of Trackside. We had a couple of events in February, the first being the M.S.C.A. trophy day at Peter Lehman’s Winery at Tanunda where some of us gathered to make use of the club bbq trailer and a pleasant day in the Barossa.  Even though there was only a small number, those who attended enjoyed their day.

Some members of our club were awarded trophies for 2009, they were Class H winner – Guy Standen in his Fiat, Class I – Justin Wanzek in a GTV6, Class R – Andrew Coles in his Alfa Sprint, Sprint Driver of the Year – Mike Coles in his Alfa Sprint and Runner up – Andrew Scadding in his Alfetta GTV.

On Sunday 28th February AROCA ran a skills enhancement day (driver training) at Mallala motorsport park with a full quota of  42 participants who learnt some new skills and had the opportunity to experience their current vehicles behaviour under extreme conditions.  It was great to see participants ranged in age from 14 to 70 and vehicles ranging from small hatches through to Bill Jones’s beautiful Ferrari 360 Modena.  From the feedback received via email to Peter Axford there were many very happy participants and some keen to participate in the advanced driver training day in September.  A big thanks to Peter Axford for shouldering the responsibility of organising and running such a day and all those volunteer instructors and helpers who helped run the day very successfully.

By the time you read this, we will have been to Phillip Island for the two day Alfa only race weekend, March 13th and 14th . What a fantastic once in a life time opportunity to see 159 Alfa Romeos from Australia and overseas.   A terrific race meeting with Ralph Ortiz, Frederick Welsh, Andrew Ebel and Andrew Scadding winning trophies from South Australia.

Our first round at Mallala was on the 28th March.  Results to be published in next month’s magazine.

Don’t forget to make sure I get your entrant declaration form to ensure the vehicle is placed correctly and fairly in the competition categories.

This month’s magazine should have a complete copy of the tables regarding vehicle classifications.
