AROCA SA Competition Rules
Dated November 2004
These class definitions will in no way affect or
are affected by the class structure used by the
Marque Sports Car Association of SA
Standard Class
1..Philosophy:
For non-competition vehicles as sold by
Alfa Romeo and which retain original
specifications for that model.
2..Replacement
is permitted of worn parts with the equivalent
standard of part from any manufacturer.
3.Freedoms are
granted to the following;
A.
Brake pad material
B.
Shock absorbers.
C.
Clutch
D.
Add on body parts (removal of metal NOT
permitted).
E.
Driver’s seat.
F.
Air Filters.
G.
Thermatic fans
H.
Exhaust pipes may be replaced with
similar design and diameter, of any
manufacturer.
I.
Electronic ignition systems.
J.
Suspension bush material on 105 series
rear suspension trailing arm joints, 105 series
rear suspension diff/trunnion joints & 116/162
series front suspension caster arm to body
joints.
NOTE
………..
Modifications
may alter the car in part or whole to the
standard specifications of an earlier or later
model of the same series (eg. 105,116GTV/GTV6
etc) However an engine change must be complete &
the engine must remain to standard
specifications for that model in its entirety, &
be of a configuration that was available in that
body type four cylinder engines from any 105 &
116 series are interchangeable. Engines within
any 900 series are interchangeable with the
exception that the 1.7 engine is NOT permitted
in 901 & 902 series (Alfasuds). Front brake
disc’s & / or callipers from the 116 series GTV6
are NOT permitted on 105 or 116 series cars
(GTV6 excepted).

Addition of CAMS approved safety
equipment (Roll cage, Harness etc) is permitted
and encouraged removal of interior parts to
facilitate fitment is allowed.
5.
Maximum wheel rim width of 6” OR standard
if wider.
6.
Only standard road tyre compounds
permitted with a minimum aspect ratio of 55% OR
less if standard (R or competition compounds are
NOT permitted)
7.
Fuel must be standard pump fuel (ULP,
PULP,LRP (Lead replacement)
8.
Classes shall be divided into four sub
classes;
a. under 1600cc,
b 1601 – 2000cc,
c 2001 – 3000cc,
d Over 3000cc.
Modified Class
-
Philosophy: For non competitive
vehicles as sold by Alfa Romeo that have
undergone limited modifications and remain
suitable for general road use.

In addition to those freedoms listed for
Standard Class, freedom is permitted to NO
MORE than two (2) of the following area’s:
a)
Internal engine and / or transmission
components.
Note: external
components such as carburettors, exhaust and
engine management systems are not permitted.
Engine changes that cross series, other than
those specified in Standard Class Rules, are
counted as one modification, & further internal
engine modifications will not constitute an
additional modification.
b)
Suspension
c)
Removal of metal or trim from body
d)
Brakes including non-standard discs and
or calipers

Maximum wheel rim width up to 7” or
standard width if wider.

Standard road compounds only with a
minimum aspect ratio of 50% may be used.

‘R’ type compound tyres with a minimum
aspect ratio of 60% may be used, however
modifications listed under Modified Class
paragraph 2, are NOT permitted.

Fuel used must be standard pump fuel (
ULP, PULP, or LRP).

Classes shall be divided into four (4)
sub classes;
A Under 1600cc
B 1601cc to 2000cc,
C 2001cc to 3000cc,
D Over 3000cc.
Super Modified Class
-
Philosophy: For vehicles
sold by Alfa Romeo that have undergone
extensive modifications and remain suitable
for limited road use.

Vehicles must conform to the specifications
of the Modified Class except that:
a. Freedom is granted to no more than three
areas listed under Modified paragraph 2a – 2d,
b. R’ type compound tyres may be used in
conjunction with no more than two (2)
modifications listed under Modified Class
paragraph 2; and
c. Internal engine modifications may be
supplemented with modifications to external
components such as carburettors, exhaust and
engine management systems.
3. Maximum wheel rim width shall be 8”
4. Fuel may include AVGAS, with appropriate
CAMS Fuel licence.
5. Classes shall be divided into four (4)
sub-classes;
a. Under 1600cc,
b 1601cc to 2000cc,
c. 2001cc to 3000cc,
e. Over 3000cc
Racing Class
1. Philosophy: For vehicles
sold by Alfa Romeo, prepared and developed
primarily for competition use.
2. Any vehicle not conforming to the other
classes will be classified “Racing Class”.
3. In addition any vehicle with any of the
following will also be classified “Racing Class”
a. Tyres marked “For competition use only”,
b. All vehicles fitted with forced
induction, or
c. All vehicles fitted with nitrous oxide
injection systems.
4. The Competition Secretary or Competition
Committee may, at their discretion, include cars
in the racing class that they deem to be in the
spirit of the racing class.
5. Classes shall be divided into four (4) sub
classes;
a. Under 1600cc,
b. 1601cc to 2000cc,
c. 2001cc to 3000cc,
d. Over 3000cc.
Alfa Romeo Specials
1. Philosophy: For vehicles developed
or fabricated using Alfa Romeo components.
These vehicles may either be;
-
Alfa Romeo coachwork with foreign
engine or driveline, OR
-
Alfa Romeo engine/driveline with
foreign coachwork, eg Ricciardi
2. This class does not have any sub classes, all
vehicles classed equally.
Non Alfa Romeo Class
-
Philosophy: For non competition
vehicles sold by manufacturers other than
Alfa Romeo and which may have undergone
modification and remain suitable for general
road use.
-
This class will have the sub-classes;
a.
Under 2000cc, and
b.
Over 2000cc
Miscellaneous
1.
The Competition Secretary and Committee
may, at their discretion, exclude, include or
reclassify a vehicle as required in the spirit
of the competition / point score.
2.
If a competitor has a dispute with the
classification of a vehicle, or they wish their
vehicle to be reclassified, they must make
themselves available to the Competition
Secretary, committee including the Eligibility
officer to put forward their case.
3.
If a competitor knowingly competes in a
class for which their vehicle does not conform
then their points accrued to that date will be
forfeited.
4.
Fire Extinguishers must have year of
manufacture stamped on the body. Any
extinguisher over three (3) years of age is
illegal.
5.
Seat belts or harnesses must have
appropriate labelling showing approval markings
for that particular belt or harness. Refer CAMS
Manual of Motorsport.
